The above pictures are of an interesting lure from Hawaii. This is the modern version of a lure that has been used for centuries to capture octopus. Apparently octopus love nothing better than a meal of cowrie. This heavy lure, (it weighs 3 lb), is lowered to the bottom in a area known to contain octopus. The two fine wires, and the lead base ensure that the lure presents correct side up. When the quarry tries to make off with the shell, the lure is pulled up quickly to the surface, with the occy held by one or more of the sharpened hooks. That thing looks DANGEROUS. At least it doesn't have barbed hooks. Thanks for sharing Allan.
