Got a few old Nilsys from Kimo awhile ago for restoration but one was too far gone, so I decided to cut it in half to check out the internal structure! Very interesting with weighting and shows the tough polyurethane coating! A small hole had formed in the coating and water had rotted most of the Balsa.

Can Cupitt showed me this a while ago. Since then I have a new appreciation for the Nilsies. I was surprised as to how tough they are. Still haven’t caught anything on one apart from a few small bass.

Sorry Ian I did not realise that they were that far gone.
I know very little of their construction but am surprised to see the wire 1 pice all the way through the lure, would this require a cavity to fit it originally??
Also never realised they were weighted.

Pretty sure they are made in two halves and glued together with the wire in between.

That's one thing Cam didn't show me, that they were weighted.

2 saw cuts either side of centre line was usual, lead sheet placed into cavity etc. Cheers Richard

Theré's an "X Ray'' thread on here somewhere, do a search, there is sure to be some Nilsys on there somewhere amongst heaps of other makes.
