Yeah I know what you mean Tony, it did pass my mind, hope they stick to fish like they stick to sharks . Thanks everyone for ALL these comments, it IS appreciated, been flat out all day----Here a a few more I just finished, the yellow/ black pattern is a killer for bream (on a 60mm body), the other one is an ongoing battle to get an even metallic leaf scale pattern--will it ever end Pete * All 100mm |

'Thanks Bazz, I'm thinking you mean the green ''Crosscut Liquid Amber''on Pg 1, just looked and realised all of those are NOT Liquid Amber, it's bloody Camphor Laurel , I'm losing it, sorry about that.
When I was making these, because they are shaped across the grain, I had some trouble with them breaking every time I dropped a blank while sanding etc, so had to insert a carbon fiber rod into them to stiffen them up a bit, seemed OK after that . Pete |

Anyone made anything out of Wollemi Pine, it feels like the right weight and looks like a very tight grain but I have not removed the bark yet.
I have what is left of a tiny sapling that died (apx 50mm dia), guy had 2 one is thriving the other died- The weather here has been so flukey, very Hot, very wet, very dry!!! This timber is so rare I don't think I could fish them but it would be great to see what this grain looks like with a good finish on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wollemia Pete |

Pete, I wonder if it's similar to King William (Billy) Pine? I've been using it for a while now, Bruce Moller brought back a slab from Tassie last year. Lovely to work with, look forward to seeing your results.
Going to the Expo this year? Regards, Seaweed. |

Yeah Chris I just have to finish my boat floor (one job at a time these days) ,also have put up about 30-40 small lures for sale. My beautiful old digital 35mm camera crashed a few months back so have not been able to put any pics up (phone pics are good but nothing compared to a real camera "macro'' )
Dave- Not sure of the grain but looking at the end it looks very fine and similar to KB pine, I used KB a lot from about 2000, had a big 3''x 6'' plank of it but run out of it a few years back. Yes I might try and make the expo this year, for me it's like the boat show, you have to go every second OR third year to see anything new--But what is nice is catching up with people, down here you don't see any lure makers from one year to the next. New camera is on the way so will keep you posted. Pete |
