Braid much less water resistence and more will go onto your reel.
Harder on the fingers when fighting a good fish especially if your fingers are wet.
I always used to like multi mono however that was back in the day and there is a lot of high tech out there now that may fulfil the job better.

On my freshwater outfits I generally use dacron as you are really only using it as a filler. For salwater outfits go with braid.

Cheers

Braid Braid Braid. Much thinner, less water drag. 30lb for 8 wgts or less and 50 lb for 9 wgts and above.

I use braid.
but here's another question. do you's prefer to fill your reel up completely? or leave it 2/3's empty?
I run a large arbor reel for trolling the larger lakes. and it bugged the heck out of me that most the reel was empty. of course, I don't need tons of backing, the usual amount is plenty for my fishing. but I filled it just for personal preference, so that the spool was filled full.
I doubt it makes any difference. one would never complain of having too MUCH backing, but definitely not fun having too LITTLE and getting spooled.
