Hi all. Was just wondering if there are any plantation timbers , or others beside cedar and white beech ,  that are suitable for luremaking??
Anthony.

Anthony,
Try Paulownia.Soft & easy to shape, grain sometimes a bit open. It is grown in Qld as a plantation timber. Google it or ask at timber yards.Cheers Richard.PS its like every thing these days,Chinese origions i think.

Hi Anthony, as Chris mentioned, Lazardies Timber Agencies are worth a visit if you get the chance, a woodcraftsman paradise regarding the variety of timbers, the guys will certainly look after you, it's where I get all my timber from pre cut to your measurements.
Cheers

Anthony

White meranti is almost extinct, I can't find it anywhere around Ipswich. Every hardware and timber outlet I call said they used to have it years ago and they replaced it with what they now call Tasmanian Oak.

So I bought some oak the other day from Bunnings and I reckon it's Meranti just a name change, Carves and sands well and its virtually identical to the timber which I received in my lure making kit from Travers and that was Meranti...

Cheers

Trend timbers at Mulgrave N.S.W. will ship it to you

you that has it as well...SmileSmileSmileSmile...Pete.
